Bookbag Santa-  collecting used school supplies for 2 little schools in Belize...

MUSICIANS ! If you would like to schedule a great vacation with a free guide... and do a good deed at the same time, send us an e-mail for more info. Every summer we lead a group of people to the beautiful Caribbean country of Belize to deliver school supplies to poor kids, there. A nice touch is to include musicians to do a little concert for the kids at the school in the village, and of course, there are plenty of beach bars to play at, in the evenings....     turtle-guy@att.net

Godin Guitars has donated a beautiful Seagull MJ6 for us to bring down, and save wear-and-tear on your instrument.

The beach bars in Placencia are beautiful settings for an acoustic solo or duo...

Every year, American students waste an

amazing amount of perfectly usable supplies,

dumping everything in the trash when school

gets out, and replacing it all 3 months later...

and this goes on at every school in the country !

Literally, TONS of good stuff go to the

landfill, or get sunk in the ocean- and it can

all be re-used !

If you would like to see some shots of Todd & Michelle (the '07 musicians) having fun with some of the students, and at one of the beach bars, go to: http://picasaweb.google.com/spilmangw/Gary3

In May, at the end of the school year, we begin collecting used supplies like pens, pencils, paper, and 3-ring binders from local schools, individuals, groups, and stores. Over the next 2 months, this is all sorted, cleaned, weighed and packed in 50-pound packages. Volunteers who sign up to go on a cheap vacation ( about $1,000 for a week-plane, hotel & food !... about $200 for a second week !!) bring 100 pounds of supplies on the plane as check-in baggage.  The delivery trip is usually at the end of July- early August. That is a slow period for tourism, so we not only deliver supplies to the schools, but we help the local economy by bringing customers to hotels, restaurants, and shops... and we get a cheap vacation in a tropical paradise. It's a win-win-win situation !

Another way to help is by the donation of used cell phones & printer cartridges, all of which can be re-cycled to raise cash for operating expenses. Student governments, or church groups can put out collection boxes asking for donations...
